Geology/Earth Sciences Reunion
5th July 2008
During Convocation Reunion Weekend 2008, the Department of Earth Sciences was open to visits from Earth Sciences and/or Geology alumni. On Saturday 5th July, Mike Benton, Andrew Hook and Liz Loeffler welomed back some twenty or so former students of the department, some accompanied by their partners, for tour of the department and an update on activities.
The weather was very wet and windy again this year, so that lunch for 1978 and 1983 graduates had to be moved from Royal Fort Gardens to the Hawthorns. Fortunately, the rain held off for the walk down to the Wills Memorial Building. There numbers swelled as we were joined by a group of alumni who had been lunching elswhere, and later by the Geog/Geols who had also been visiting Geographical Sciences.
As all of the group had been students prior to the department's move to Wills Memorial Building, Mike Benton gave a brief summary of some of the changes that had taken place since then. He and Andrew Hook then led a tour of the current department and its facilities, as well as showing off our newly-acquired binocular microscopes.
The time passed all too quickly, but it was great to see you greeting old friends again, reminiscing about old times and laughing over that sheet of first-year "mugshots".
It was good to see you all again - don't leave it so long until the next time!
